Tucked away in the paradisiac land of Upper Dir District in KPK, the valley of Kumrat is inarguably one of the most scenic valleys on this planet. It is a magical land of waterfalls, lush green pastures, freshwater springs, colossal mountains, fast-flowing gushing rivers and peaceful lakes. The land is dominated by the vegetation of Deodar Trees. The place is also counted among one of the best places to visit in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Owing to its immense natural beauty, Kumrat is often dubbed ‘heaven on earth’ by many who visit. Camping, bonfire, boating, trekking, climbing; this place offers everything that an adventure seeker looks for while travelling.
As we already mentioned the valley of Kumrat is located in KPK’s Upper Dir District so while getting there you will get to experience a mix of carpeted roads and under construction dusty pathways. The closest town to the valley is Thall.
So, to reach Kumrat from any city in Pakistan, you first need to get to the town of Thall, which is famously known as the entrance to the valley. Trip organisers to Kumrat often use it as a launching point. From Thall, you have to take the route of Utrar Road, which is actually a roller-coaster of twist and turns due to the mountainous landscape of the region.
While travelling from Kalam in Swat Valley to a bazaar in Utrar, a small town in KPK, you can hire a shared taxi, the cost of which is PKR 150-200 per person. However, from Utrar Bazaar to Thall, you need to take a 4X4 Jeep, which will also be shared by other passengers, costing you PKR 500 per person. Finally, to get to your destination, you have to hire a jeep; this time a private one with a driver that will cost you somewhere around PKR 2000-4000, depending on the season and the weather.
Why go for hotels in Kumrat Valley when you can spend a night camping? Actually, this place offers two options for an overnight stay, you can either hire a camp that is very cheap somewhere around PKR 200 per night or you can go for the option of hotels in Kumrat Valley. The price of a hotel room per night starts from as low as PKR 2000. These rates may also vary during the peak season of tourism that comes twice a year during summers and winters.
Even if you have been to this heavenly place in Khyber Pakhtunkwa, we bet you still haven’t seen all of its tourist attractions. There are literally dozens of places to see in Kumrat Valley. Wooden Canals, Dojanga, Panjkora River, Waterfall in Jahaz Banda, Do Kala Chasma, Badagoi Pass, Chahrot Banda, Trek to Katora Lake, Jandrai Village are some of the most beautiful spots in this area to mention in this regard.
Clouds dominate the skies in the valley of Kumrat during most time of the year. The place experiences heavy rainfall during the season of monsoon. Similarly, it can get extremely chilly and snowy during winters. In a nutshell, the weather in Kumrat Valley stays pleasant almost throughout the year, which makes it one of the best places to visit in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Pro Tip: People visiting Kumrat Valley are advised to plan their travel capsule wardrobe after checking the weather forecast for the upcoming season.
